Writing Update - what's happening

Well, another week nears its end, and Book 4 does, too. There are now probably only four, five or possibly six chapters remaining... I can't believe it is already concluding.

I have lived SJ and Dave's lives for the past twelve months since I began writing the story. It was initially titled One Flew Over the Dragon's Nest, but I renamed it The Amatherean Tales as the story grew.

I am always considering the next steps in their journey. I have the premise and a rough plan for Book 5, and before anyone asks, no, I have no idea if it will go in the direction I think until I write. Whatever happens, it will lead on to Book 6 and likely beyond.

Further investigation and solutions are required following recent developments in SJ's ongoing story. Unresolved issues require closure. SJ's new life presents many challenges. This includes dark elf and fae history, the gods' involvement, dragons, and the evolution of fae heirlooms. Also, with SJ's continuing growth comes new opportunities as more of the systems infrastructure becomes accessible with guilds and Dave's continuing escapades. She still has seen so little of Amathera, but with the continuing border expansions and territory boundaries, will she ever spread her wings and fly further afield? Only time will tell.

In real terms, SJ hasn't even been on Amathera for a year, and so much has already happened to her. Her story is still only just beginning. With her ever-expanding relationships, new opportunities will also be open to her.

So, time for some details.

I have currently written over 700,000 words across the combined areas of Amathera, and yet I know I could easily write the same amount again, if not much more, over the coming months. The world's vast richness remains unexplored because of its diverse territories. If I were writing a standard novel, I would have written seven or eight books this past year!

After the release of the final chapter of Book 4, as I have mentioned previously, I will need to focus on my degree work to get it completed over the coming weeks. In the meantime, while I do, I will work on Scrug Wars, a new series (possibly three books-who knows). This will add more depth to Amathera covering this tumultuous period in its history. I am not expecting to release chapters immediately as I work on creating a backlog before publishing anything and I need to make sure the story flows as I wish it to. As soon as I am happy with the direction in which it is moving, I will then publish them here on Patreon for you to read.

Some may find this break from immediately continuing with Book 5 frustrating, and I can understand your reasons. The reason is quite simple: As a new author; I have no guarantees that my series will ever be published past Book 3. I have been fortunate enough to secure a fantastic contract with Podium Entertainment for the first three books in the series, but whether the series continues with them will depend heavily on whether the story sells when released. Until I know how it will do, I do not want to become a one-trick pony.

I can't finish a writing update without thanking you all for your continuing support. It means more than I can explain.
